Aud traveled by ship to Iceland with a crew of 20 men. Many Norse women during the Viking age held the unique experience of traveling on Viking ships to discover and colonize new lands. In Eirik the Red’s Saga, Aud is said to have, “claimed all the land in the Dales between the Dagverdara and the Skraumuhlaupsa rivers and settled at Hvamm” (653). Here she held great power and provided her crew with land to farm and live upon. She accomplished much as a woman during the Viking age and is remembered to this day.
